PUERTO MALDONADO, is one of the places hidden away in the jungle of Madre de Dios, where will find that rivers are the main highways of the jungle, where the weather is hot and where rain is more than welcome as it brings a quiet and comfortable relief from the heat. Here the spoken language is not quechua as in the Andes, but different native dialects, being understood only by the people born in these areas.
During this tour we want to show you the best places in the Puerto Maldonado area without wasting any time, spending a minimum number of days so that you may continue your journey to other interesting destinies you may find in Peru.
Our first excursion will take us to a rainforest, where we will discover an incredible variety of medicinal plants, tropical trees, insects and butterflies. We will make a short stop at a lookout point to watch Toucans and other birds. We will also go on a night excursion to look for alligators, whose eyes shine violet when the flashlight hits them.
The parrot collpa is one of the simplest and most natural of experiences during the early morning hours, where you can see with your own eyes thousands of multi colored parrots fly down to eat red clay that is found by the riverside, to counteract certain fruits that they eat during the day that might not be ripe.
Another trip is to visit the Sandoval Lake, this is a great spot where many species of animals live, such as River Otters, birds great and small such as the Shanshos, King Fishers, Aningas, or monkeys as the Cotomonos, the Wasisas or the Capuchins, also the famous Piranha, and the giant Paiche, a fish that can measure as long as 2.50 meters and weigh up to 200 kilos. All this can be seen and discovered from a canoe until sunset.
